Event Overview

Cult Fiction is an arts and film event happening during March, in Bradford, 2010.

Spread across three venues over three days, it incorporates a themed film programme, film symposium, and related visual art.

The aims of the event are;

• To engage an audience in critical theory within the context of film.
• To use ‘Bradford City of Film’ as a platform to promote Cult Fiction to a wider filmic audience regionally.
• To promote the importance of film both as an academic study and for critical public appreciation.
• To link Cult Fiction with similar events happening within Bradford that month, utilizing an already established audience with a specific interest in film.
• To provide a platform for critical theory in film, within Bradford

This years theme explores the nature of control over the 'ideal' woman.

The screenings are designed to chronologically show a devolution of gender ideology, from substitute robot wife...to sexy gynoid...to inanimate doll.

The theme is designed to highlight representations of gender through the narrative of popular culture and science fiction.

While the films fluctuate between kitch and sci-fi fantasy, ending in emotive representations of the fantasist.
